I’m a lesbian, wife, mother, Christian, and seminarian. Socialized into politeness, I’ve ceded space for others in body and voice for most of my life. My journey toward eventual ministry has been one of learning to trust my unique voice and refusing to relinquish it. Faith leaders must speak truth to power in the face of systemic racism, oppression, and inequity or we permit the injustice by our inaction. While fear might have me give up my voice or accept the noise of others, faith insists that I show up, in body and in voice, and banish the sea witch who would be my silence.
